For more information about the law, visit www.smokefreeengland.co.uk.
From 1st July 2007:
Smoking is banned from all enclosed public spaces
Smoking is banned in outside places where over 50% of the outside area is enclosed by walls and a roof, ie: outside smoking areas are allowed for smokers, but more of the area must be open than closed
Owners of premises are legally obliged to enforce the ban, or could risk substantial fines and face losing their licence
In the Students' Union:
At the last General Meeting of the 06/07 academic term, a motion was passed to outline the fines and penalties that would be levied against those who broke the smoking ban.
Anyone found smoking in our premises will be asked to leave and have their Union card retained
They will have to book a disciplinary hearing and pay a fine of £50 before they will be allowed to re-enter any of our venues
Any fines collected from those breaking the smoking ban will go towards welfare campaigns to help people stop smoking
